Discover your experience
- Book your ticket and prepare to be awed: The Field Museum in Chicago is a vast, immersive playground of science and history where more than 40 million artifacts — from ancient fossils to cultural treasures — are carefully curated to tell the story of our planet and its peoples, promising hours of discovery for curious travelers who love learning as much as sightseeing.
- Step into the same gallery as Sue, the world-famous Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton, and feel the exhilaration of standing before one of the largest and most complete T. rex specimens ever found; the sheer presence of this iconic predator, paired with the museum’s intriguing displays on mummies and their mysterious stories, turns every visit into a spine-tingling, unforgettable encounter with the past.
- Don’t miss the massive titanosaur mount — a jaw-dropping reminder of the giants that once roamed Earth — whose length and scale are easier to grasp in person than in any book or photo, offering a powerful perspective on just how enormous prehistoric life could be and making for spectacular photos and conversation starters.
- If gemstones and fine craftsmanship catch your eye, linger in the Grainger Hall of Gems, where over 600 specimens and roughly 150 pieces of antique jewelry sparkle under expert lighting; from opals to diamonds, sapphires, rubies and emeralds, the displays are a feast for the senses and a delightful reminder of nature’s artistry (alas, they’re for admiring only, not pocketing).
- Families with little explorers will love the Crown Family PlayLab, a hands-on learning zone designed to turn play into discovery: interactive stations encourage early learners to tinker, experiment and ask questions, making science approachable and fun while giving adults a chance to enjoy the exhibits knowing kids are engaged.
- Beyond the permanent halls, the Field Museum rotates compelling temporary exhibitions that refresh the experience on repeat visits, and before you leave be sure to stop by the gift shop — it’s packed with clever, museum-inspired mementos that capture the spirit of your visit and make perfect souvenirs for yourself or gifts for fellow travel lovers.
