Commissioned by the Clérigos Brotherhood, the tower was designed by Nicolau Nasoni, a celebrated 18thcentury Italian architect who left his mark on northern Portugal.
Construction of the church began in 1732 and was completed around 1750, showcasing remarkable artistry and dedication.
By the mid1750s, the breathtaking divided stairway at the church's entrance was finished, enhancing the façade that boasts intricately detailed Baroque designs.
